Unicode and legacy Tamil fonts
Before Unicode, Tamil was typed with fonts such as Bamini, TAB, TAM, Vanavil, Shree Lipi and SR-Tamil. Each one placed Tamil letters on English keyboard keys in its own way. Text typed in them only looks right when the same font is installed, which is why old documents often open as English letters and symbols.
Unicode gives every Tamil letter one standard code, so it displays correctly on phones, browsers, Word, Google Docs and social media, and search engines can read it. Designers and printers still use legacy fonts in PageMaker, CorelDRAW and Photoshop, so conversion is needed in both directions.
How to use the converter

- Press the swap button to switch between Unicode to legacy and legacy to Unicode.
- Type, paste, speak or open a .txt file. The result updates as you type.
